🏥 Job Summary

The Lead Medical Records Technician (ROI) serves as a team lead within the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System. The selected candidate will lead a team of employees while also performing technical duties related to medical records, scheduling, data tracking, and program coordination.

This role reports directly to the Mobility Manager and plays a key role in supporting timely and accurate healthcare services for U.S. Veterans.

🧾 Key Responsibilities

🔹 Team Lead Duties (30%)

  • Distribute and balance workload among staff
  • Monitor work progress and quality
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees
  • Review completed work and ensure deadlines are met
  • Approve short-term leave and handle basic employee issues
  • Report performance and training needs to the supervisor

🔹 Scheduling, Data Collection & Tracking (25%)

  • Manage consults, appointments, and admissions scheduling
  • Collect, compile, and analyze transportation service data
  • Enter and verify data in automated tracking systems
  • Prepare reports and ensure workload accuracy
  • Coordinate with EMS, DAV, VFW, and other transportation providers

🔹 Program Planning & Coordination (25%)

  • Plan and organize Veteran Transportation Service programs
  • Validate daily workload data and reporting accuracy
  • Support operational planning, forecasting, and reporting
  • Review workload types such as outpatient visits and surgical admissions

🔹 Performance Measures Support (20%)

  • Help reduce patient wait times
  • Process consultations using VISTA, CPRS, and SharePoint
  • Monitor quality measures for consultation services
  • Support staff training on electronic medical record systems

🎓 Qualifications

Basic Requirement

Education or Experience (One Required)

  • At least 6 months must involve Release of Information (ROI) work

Option 2 – Education

  • Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Health Information Management
  • Minimum 12 semester hours in relevant courses

Option 3 – Combination

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Grade Level Requirement (GS-7)

  • One year of experience is equivalent to GS-6
